First time using matte painting techniques in combination with Unreal Engine to achieve this epic scene.
The second shot shows the environment directly from Unreal. There's no post processing involved! I also wanted to challenge myself to create those amazing clouds that are visible in the background.
I created the cards from the basic Unreal Engine plane primitive and then by photobashing different cloud pictures I got to the end result visible in the picture.
The setup is a dynamic light as the sun and one skylight. No HDRi or Unreal Sky involved.
This was my first attempt but I am definitely impressed. Once again Unreal Engine never fails to impress me for the amount of application that you can use it for.
